Every day at Ambleside has a rhythm — unhurried, purposeful, and full.
Charlotte Mason believed in the power of habit — and that a well-ordered day was itself a form of education. At Ambleside, the daily rhythm is intentional: mornings are for the most demanding academic work when minds are freshest; afternoons are for nature, handwork, music, and physical activity. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is wasted.
Children arrive, settle, and the day begins with prayer and a morning greeting. The atmosphere is calm and unhurried — there is no rush here.
Morning minds tackle Singapore Math — manipulatives, mental maths, problem-solving, and conceptual work. Short, focused lessons with immediate feedback.
Copywork, dictation, narration from a living book, or composition. The lesson is short — Charlotte Mason believed in the power of short lessons to maintain focus and attention.
Free play outside. Children need this — physically and mentally. We protect this time.
A living book is read aloud or studied. Children narrate back what they have understood. Maps are drawn. Timelines are updated. Ideas are discussed.
Language learning through conversation, song, games, and structured lessons. Oral first, always.
Children eat together and play freely. This is not wasted time — free play is where children consolidate social skills, creativity, and independence.
School day ends. Aftercare available until 17:30 for families who need it.
This is an indicative schedule — actual timetables vary by grade and term. Art, music, nature study, handwork, swimming, and sport rotate throughout the week.
