We are so glad that you are considering admission to Ambleside Durban for your child. After you have explored our website, visited the school, and asked any questions of our admissions staff, we warmly welcome you to apply.

Ambleside School of Durban offers a formal curriculum for students from Grade R to Grade 7 and an informal curriculum for pre-school and limited after-school care. Developed over 20 years by Ambleside Schools International, the rich and diverse curriculum is based on the philosophy and collected works of Charlotte Mason.

As the children mature, the curricula they encounter broaden and deepen, moving beyond fundamental skills to advanced works that prepare them to cultivate a rich intellectual life, regardless of their post-secondary paths.
If you are considering our school for your children, here is a guide to application:

First off, please make sure you understand the unique educational philosophy we offer – have a look at the fundaments of our teaching method, the values we work to embody, the curriculum we use, and know what to expect in terms of sport, extra murals and class size standards. We also highly recommend taking some time to view the short videos put together by Ambleside Schools International (click on this link to view the videos).

Here are the steps for admission:

1. Fill out the Online Application Form.

After we receive your completed application we will contact you via email to welcome you and confirm receipt of your application.

2. Attend an Introductory Interview

We will work with you to schedule an introductory interview.  This is essentially coffee and a chat with our Principal, where we get to know you a bit and discuss some of the important ideas and issues around an Ambleside Education.  You have the opportunity to ask any questions you may not have already found answers to, and together we consider whether we should proceed with the application.

3. In-school Assessment

Your child comes and spends two full days with us at school, which gives us the opportunity to get to know them, glimpse some of their strengths and their weaknesses, see how they cope socially, and emotionally, as well as (for the older ones) establish an academic knowledge marker to work with.

4. Feedback

Qualified applicants will be considered based on space availability and optimal classroom mix. Feedback will be provided to you, and a decision will be made on whether this is the right place for your family.
