About Us

Ambleside School of Durban at a glance.

Children, I think all children, so taught, express themselves in forcible and fluent English and use a copious vocabulary. Parents become interested in schoolroom work, and find their children ‘delightful companions.’ Children show delight in books and manifest a genuine love of knowledge.

Ambleside School of Durban is a private centre of learning in which children can grow and learn as they were designed to. Each space holds a carefully and beautifully cultivated atmosphere; one of peace, curiosity and of delight.

Here are the fundamentals of our school.

Ambleside is a Charlotte Mason school offering classes from Pre-school through Grade 7, located in Durban North, KwaZulu-Natal.

As part of Ambleside Schools International, we are one of 25 Member Schools across the world.

The philosophy of education developed by British educator Charlotte Mason shapes our curriculum and method. Her focus on engaging children with the best of creation and attention to habit-formation are models that remain relevant and poignant in guiding today’s children toward lives of purpose, character and excellence.

We believe the child is a respected person.  Balanced relationships and good habits are developed, and students are allowed to access the best work of the best minds of human history.  A love for learning, growth and curiosity flourish.

We offer a broad and challenging curriculum where children naturally delight in the feast of ideas set before them.

We focus on developing good habits that will set up the child for life. And we help them grow in relationship to themselves, to each other, to great ideas, to nature and to God.

Class sizes are limited to 16 students, with one class per grade, so that every student and every teacher can be personally mentored in a warm supportive community of families.

We follow a four-term calendar, dates of which are published in August for the following year.  Class from mid-January through early-December, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Mondays – Fridays.

Pre-school students attend school five mornings per week, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Aftercare facilities are available until 4:00 p.m. on Mondays – Fridays.

Ambleside Durban has been serving the Durban community since 2019.
